Mawjhai Amu finalizes top 21-man squad

This year, the amazing city of Taleqan, Takhar province hosted the 4-day 2017 Afghan Premier League (APL) northeast zone regional tournament (Road to 2017 APL) for selecting the top 21 players of Mawjhai Amu. The regional tournament took place from July 09 to July 12, 2017 at Takhar stadium. Kunduz, Badakhshan, Omid-e-Takhar, Baghlan, and Arman-e-Takhar were the five competing teams in the region. 

On average, 5,000 to 7,000 northeast residents have attended and cheered the 2017 APL northeast zone regional tournaments matches. The top 21-selectees and matches were carefully evaluated by Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) officials and FIFA and AFC licensed referees. 

As the enthralling round of matches continued among the five teams; Arman-e-Takhar and Kunduz were the two opposing teams in the lively final. Neither side was able to fashion an effort on breaking the 1-1 deadlock draw. Following the breathtaking penalty shootouts, Arman-e-Takhar triumphed over the rival and claimed the 2017 APL northeast zone regional tournament cup. Khan Mohammad Sourosh won the Best Player Award of the tournament, Mahbobullah Kakar, the well-known Kunduz goalie, received the Best Goalkeeper Award, and Baghlan was presented the Fair Play Award in this regional tournament. 

Mawjhai Amu represents the north-eastern of Afghanistan. The team performed satisfactory in the 2016 APL and preserved to play in the semi-finals for the second consecutive year. Amu was defeated by Simorgh Alborz in the 2016 semi-finals and came fourth.
