16 Dec, 2014

Shaheen Asmayee made history in 2014 as they became the first team to win back to back RAPL championships. Doing so in dramatic fashion, defeating Oqaban Hindukosh in overtime of the final 3-2, avenging their only loss of the regular season. Although they were favored coming into the season, 2014 was an up and down campaign for Shaheen Asmayee.

They started the season fast with two decisive victories over group A opponents, De Abasin Sape (5-1) and Mawjhai Amu (4-2). Riding high with a unblemished 2-0-0 record, the stage was set for Shaheen's final group play match against undefeated Oqaban Hindukosh. The winner of this match would finish the year undefeated, atop the group A standings. Shaheen would be without the services of seven of their starting players as those players were in Incheon, South Korea representing Afghanistan in the Asian Games. The match ended in a 2-1 victory for Oqaban Hindukosh, Shaheen dropped to second place in the group, which set up a semifinal matchup against De Spinghar Bazan.

After tying the first leg, Shaheen Asmayee made quick work of Spinghar in the second leg 3-0. Shaheen Asmayee were back in the Roshan Afghan Premier League final and just one win away from reaching their goal of back to back championships. The game went into extra time as Oqaban Hindukosh and Shaheen Asmayee were locked in a 2-2 tie. Hashmat "The Refrigerator" Barakzai quickly ended the suspense in the opening minutes of extra time, when he scored the third and deciding goal in 92nd minute. The crowd erupted, Barakzai ripped off his jersey and ran to the near side of the field to celebrate with teammates and fans.
