APL Lunches the 2017 Championship Tournament on September 7th

Kabul; September 05, 2017, Afghan Premier League (APL) organized the press conference and officially announced that the 2017 Championship Tournament, sixth season, will be kicked-off at Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) stadium on Thursday the September 7th at 2:00pm.

Mr. Mohammad Yusuf Kargar, Deputy Technical Director of AFF; Mr. Shafiq Gawhari, the APL commissioner; Shafi Sharifi, Director of Corporate Affairs of Roshan; and Abdul Wahid Wahidyar, the Pamir Group of Companies representative, have attended the press conference and briefed the attendees and media.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce the beginning of the 6th season for the APL. The best players from across the country have gathered in Kabul to compete in yet another exciting season. Thousands of fans are eagerly waiting to watch their favorite teams and players compete against each other. With the help of our partners in the AFF, I am confident this will be the best season yet,” commented APL Commissioner, Mr. Shafic Gawhari. Moreover, the commissioner emphasized on the main goals of APL which are finding and supporting the young talented Afghan football players and promoting peace and unity through football in Afghanistan. “APL could prosperously meet its goals and objectives and will stay committed to work with AFF and other stakeholders to make the football better,” added the APL commissioner.

The launch of 2017 APL sixth season marks the successful completion of the 2017 regional tournaments (Road to 2017 APL) and selection of top 21 players of each zone in their respective APL teams.

Shaheen Asmayee, De Maiwand Atalan, Toofan Harirod, Simorgh Alborz, Mawjhai Amu, De Spinghar Bazan, De Abasin Sape, and Oqaban Hindukosh are the eight APL teams representing all 34 provinces in Afghanistan and will compete against each other in the group stage of the tournament, with four teams advancing to the Semi-finals.

The opening ceremony will include 2017 APL’s new THEME SONG performed LIVE by multiple well-known Afghan singers, the audience wearing colors to symbolize the Afghan flag and many more surprises. 

The first day of the tournament will continue with the opening match between the winner of the 5th Season and the Kabul Zone’s representative, Shaheen Asmayee, against De Spinghar Bazan representing the eastern zone. The APL’s two groups (A and B) for the 2017 Championship Tournament were determined by the draw show which was broadcast on August 25th in Kabul.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our beloved and honorable people on the launch of sixth season. I am delighted that the AFF with close cooperation of Moby Group and the league’s sponsors, Roshan and Pamir Group of Companies, successfully conducted the league for five consecutive years. Now, we are starting the sixth season while facing some tackles, yet the best steps are taken by our colleagues and stakeholders to address the challenges and make the league more professional and flawless soon. The AFF and APL officials had several meetings with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to seek possible ways for bringing improvements to the league. Moreover, upon an agreement with AFC, the champions of APL will have the chance to represent Afghanistan in the AFC Cup. I am hopeful that the sixth season would be a great and successful season and I invite all our beloved people to join us in the stadium and support their teams,” said Mr. Keramudin Karim, the AFF president.

The opening ceremony as well as all matches will be broadcast LIVE on TOLO TV, Lemar TV and simulcast on Arman FM, Arakozia FM as well as online via the APL Official YouTube Channel, website, and other social media platforms.
