2014 Season in Review - Toofan Harirod

24 Dec, 2014

Toofan Harirod finished the 2014 Roshan Afghan Premier League season with one win, a loss, and a draw to earn third place in group B and fifth place overall. Although they missed the playoffs for the first time in their history, they did manage to play competitively in all three of their games.

The opening match of their season was an emotional one as Toofan Harirod went up against their former captain Rafi Barakzai and De SPinghar Bazan. "Thinking about that first game, all I can remember is how hard it was to see Rafi in another uniform. It didn't matter that he was wearing De Spinghar Bazan colors. All that mattered was that he wasn't wearing Toofan Harirod blue," said Toofan defenseman Ali Ahmad Yarzada. After a hard fought contest the game ended in a draw.

Their next match was against another strong playoff team from their group, De Maiwand Atalan, who were able to hold off a late surge from Toofan and win 2-0. The boys in blue finally got a win in 2014 in their third and final game versus Simorgh Alborz. They won the contest 3-1, evening their goal differential and pinning their playoff hopes on the outcome of the game between De Maiwand Atalan and De Spinghar Bazan. If Maiwand had defeated Spinghar by two or more goals, then Toofan would have been in the semifinals instead of Spinghar. Unfortunately for Toofan Harirod fans they did not get the outcome they were hoping for. Maiwand and Spinghar played to a draw and Toofan finished 5th in the regular season rankings.

2014 was a tough year for Toofan Harirod as they missed the playoffs for the first time. They played hard all season and were competitive in every game. They will look to be right back in the playoff picture next year and make another run at the RAPL championship.
