2014 Season in Review - Simorgh Alborz

8 Jan, 2015

The Simorgh is a mythical creature - a large, graceful, winged bird - which is referred to in many famous poems, because of its capability of making great sacrifices. After reaching the championship in the first two seasons of Roshan Afghan Premier League play, Simorgh Alborz fell from grace in 2014 and finished in second to last place.

Considered by RAPL pundits as strong favorites to reach the semifinals from group B, few would have guessed that Simorgh Alborz would go winless in 2014. They will have to make great sacrifices in order to get back to the team they were in 2011 and 12. They fought hard in their group play matches against Toofan Harirod, De Spinghar Bazan, and De Maiwand Atalan, but ended up losing them all by a combined score of 3-8.

Team captain Munir Ulhaq commented on his team's poor 2014 season. "This was a disappointing year. On behalf of our team I would like to apologize to our fans for the way we played in 2014 and, at the same time, thank them for their continued love and support. We will be back in 2015 and better than ever. We have our sights set on reaching the semifinals and  giving our fans everything to cheer about."

Simorgh Alborz had a disappointing year in 2014 and will have to turn things around quickly as the 2015 season approaches. Given their history of playing in the RAPL championship, fans can bet on seeing a refocused  team in 2015.
