2014 Season in Review: Oqaban Hindukosh

17 Dec, 2014

Oqaban Hindukosh spread their wings and took flight in 2014, making it all the way to the Roshan Afghan Premier League championship. They shocked the football world recording  a regular season win over Shaheen Asmayee and a semifinal win over defensive powerhouse De Maiwand Atalan. Although they came up short of the RAPL championship, they were able to solidify themselves as a top contender for years to come.

Oqaban Hindukosh played a unique brand of football in 2014 that put the team before the individual.  Ironically they saw many superstars rise within this team-first philosophy. Captain and goalkeeper Aimal Gerowal summed it up well when he said, "Our team is the polar opposite of Shaheen Asmayee. Theirs is built on the strength of great individual player performances, whereas ours is built on the strength of playing as a team. Each person must take care of their responsibilities and think of the team first, for us to be successful."

On defense, Oqaban Hindukosh features rising star and fan favorite, Farhad Totakhil, who bruised opposing forwards whenever he had the chance. He is known for earning support and attention from fans by dying his hair Oqaban's team colors. After scoring a goal during a September 25th game versus De Maiwand Atalan, Totakhil ran all the way across the field to the VVIP section of AFF Stadium to greet and accept blessings from AFF President Keramuddin Karim. Purple hair and all.

Oqaban Hindukosh also featured three spectacular young forwards offensively: Riza Rizayee won the Golden Boot Award with six goals; Anwar Akbari was just behind him with five; and Zmaray Salangi was tied for third on the team with three.

With a great goalkeeper, sound defense, and acrobatic forwards on offense Oqaban Hindukosh is a complete team and will be in championship contention for years to come.
