‘I don’t like 1-0 wins’- Peter Segrt

31 Dec, 2015

Peter Segrt reflected on his side’s win against Maldives in the final group stage game of SAFF Suzuki Cup 2015 at the post match press conference. “Everybody makes mistakes, I make mistakes too. When you want to make somebody responsible, I’m responsible. When you score 4 goals, I can take one”

Speaking about his semi final opponents, Segrt said he was surprised at Sri Lanka’s progress in the tournament.

“We have to respect to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka made a big sensation. I was not thinking Sri Lanka can beat Nepal and they played against India very well.

Afghanistan demonstrated attacking football against all oppositions in the group stage. Segrt said this is something he’s been working on.

“It is very important to give something to the people when we play. I don’t like to win 1-0 all the time.”

Talking about giving captaincy and more responsibility to FaysalShayesteh, Segrt thinks he has made the right decision.

“Faysal is for me one of the best players, maybe the best at the moment. He is in the starting the eleven everytime. It is important for him to stay healthy. Some weeks ago he was a normal player now I make him captain and now I see it is the right decision, not only for the goal, he is a very good leader”

Afghanistan play Sri Lanka in the semi final match that takes place on December 31 at the Trivandrum International Stadium, Kariavattom.
